Dubai’s Salik announces two new toll gates on major routes to ease traffic

Scheduled to commence operations in November 2024, the new toll gates will raise Salik’s total count in Dubai from eight to ten.

Salik Company PJSC, the exclusive toll gate operator in Dubai, has been tasked by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) with the installation of two new toll gates to alleviate congestion and optimize traffic flow on crucial routes within the city.

The two additional toll gates will be positioned at Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, situated between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street.

These specific locations were chosen following comprehensive traffic movement studies conducted by the RTA, with the objective of effectively managing traffic distribution and reducing congestion by diverting some vehicles to alternative routes with greater capacity.

Enhancing traffic efficiency through Salik gates

Salik’s exclusive operational rights for the toll gates extend until June 2071. The RTA foresees that the Business Bay Crossing gate will lead to a 12-15 percent enhancement in traffic congestion on Al Khail Road and a 10-16 percent reduction in traffic volume on Al Rabat Street. Furthermore, it is expected to channel traffic towards Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges, along with Ras Al Khor Street.

Similarly, the Al Safa South gate is expected to achieve a 15 percent reduction in right-turn traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Meydan Street and optimize traffic flow on Financial Centre, First Al Khail, and Al Asayel streets.
