Congratulations on your new home! Moving marks the beginning of a fresh adventure, and we understand the time, effort, and dedication it takes to reach this milestone.
Moreover, you likely have a few remaining tasks on your checklist that require attention before you can fully appreciate your new environment.
One crucial item is registering with DEWA – Dubai’s Electricity and Water Authority.
As usual, let us simplify the process for you:
So, what is DEWA and do I need it?
DEWA, Dubai’s official utility provider for electricity and water, requires registration for all residents in the UAE, whether they are moving into a new residence for the first time or relocating.
How can I set it up?
You have two options for registering with DEWA: online or in person at one of their branches, also known as “happiness centers,” which sounds inviting, doesn’t it?
Opting for online registration requires creating a profile on DEWA’s official website, accessible by clicking here.
Now it’s time to register for DEWA, follow these simple steps below:
- Now, go to the official DEWA website and locate the section titled “Activation of Electricity and Water (Move-in),” which is typically situated on the main homepage.
- Based on your customer classification, select the appropriate option from the “Customer Type” dropdown menu. These categories include expatriate, GCC national, investor, or UAE national.
- Choose the relevant “Account Type” – either owner or tenant.
- For tenants, ensure to input the Ejari number for the premises. Keep in mind that certain commercial free zones in Dubai are exempt from Ejari. If this applies to you, simply indicate “I don’t have Ejari.”
- If you reside in a free zone, you will need to furnish details such as the tenancy contract number, contract start and end dates, contract value, number of rooms, premise numbers, and the DEWA premise number. After supplying all the necessary information, click “continue” and proceed with the remaining steps to finalize the registration process!
You’re almost done: the final step…
The last stage in registering with DEWA is to settle the account activation fees.
These fees comprise a security deposit of AED 2,000 for residential apartments and AED 4,000 for residential villas. Additionally, there are activation charges of AED 100 for small meters and AED 300 for large meters to establish your electricity and water services.
There is also an additional AED 30 fee for government registration, knowledge, and innovation.
Attention bargain hunters! Thukher and Sanad cardholders are eligible for a 50% discount on activation charges.
Once the registration is finalized, please allow up to 15 hours for activation to be completed.
And there you have it! All set up and ready to go.
