Unveiling the UAE’s First Casino Haven

Last year, news emerged that the UAE is establishing a governmental body to develop and enforce regulations for commercial gaming. With fresh images of the enterprise now available, it seems like the ideal moment for us to piece together what we know about the sole confirmed casino for the region thus far: Wynn Al Marjan Island.

What is the location of Wynn Al Marjan Island in the UAE?

You’ve likely already deduced that Wynn Al Marjan Island will be situated on Al Marjan Island. However, if you’re not acquainted with this region of the UAE, we have some useful information for you. Al Marjan is located at the Ajman/Sharjah border of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), making it approximately an hour’s drive from Downtown Dubai. Al Marjan Island comprises four distinct man-made islands, constructed using 2.7 million square meters of reclaimed sand.

Interestingly, this will be Wynn Resorts’ first beachfront property.

When is Wynn Al Marjan Island expected to open for visitors?

The unveiling of Wynn Al Marjan Island was first announced in January 2022, marking the brand’s inaugural venture into the Middle East upon its scheduled opening in early 2027.

Progress is actively ongoing, highlighted in the Wynn Resorts, Limited Reports Second Quarter 2023 Results (released on August 9). Craig Billings, CEO of Wynn Resorts, Limited, expressed enthusiasm for the project’s commencement: “Regarding development, we are thrilled to have initiated construction on Wynn Al Marjan Island, poised to become a pivotal tourism hotspot in the UAE.”

Is gaming going to be available at Wynn Al Marjan Island?

In September 2022, during an earnings call, Wynn Resorts CEO Billings hinted that the casino component was on track to surpass Wynn Las Vegas in size. With the UAE establishing a new board to craft the regulatory framework for commercial gaming and the resort boasting features such as a dedicated gaming area, it’s a safe bet to assume the answer is yes. Fast forward to May 2024, a press release from Wynn Resorts anticipated it to be the inaugural integrated gaming resort in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region.

What is the expected size of Wynn Al Marjan Island?

The tower is set to reach an astounding height of 300 meters above sea level, making it an impressive feat for an island construction. To put its scale into perspective, the tallest structure on Palm Jumeirah, Palm Tower, stands at 240 meters tall, offering breathtaking views.

Inside this colossal leisure complex, visitors can anticipate a luxurious accommodation offering consisting of 1,542 rooms and suites, complemented by 22 exclusive private villas.

What will be the expense of constructing it?

The project is estimated to have cost USD3.9 billion (Dhs14.32 billion).

What kind of entertainment awaits us at Wynn Al Marjan Island?

Apart from the gaming component, guests can enjoy entertainment through a theater featuring exclusive productions (we’re looking at you, Britney), along with daily light and laser displays. Indulge in top-notch spa and wellness treatments, and explore luxury-brand shopping opportunities at our five-star spa.

What culinary adventures are in store at Wynn Al Marjan Island?

While specific food and beverage partners for the resort have yet to be announced, early projections indicate a lineup of “22 dining and lounge experiences.” Culinary excellence is integral to Wynn’s brand, with their Las Vegas location boasting a renowned breakfast buffet and ten distinguished fine dining restaurants, such as Cipriani, Sinatra, Mizumi, Wing Lei, SW Steakhouse, and Sarah Thompson’s Casa Playa. Some of these establishments are also present at the Macau Wynn location. It’s reasonable to anticipate the possibility of seeing a Mizumi or Wing Lei establishment in RAK. However, these details remain unconfirmed. We eagerly await 2027.
