Jebel Ali Beach to be the longest public beach in Dubai

It’ll be the first project of its kind in the UAE.

Jebel Ali Beach is set to become Dubai’s longest public open beach.

Plans for the Jebel Ali Beach development project have been approved, encompassing a 6.6-kilometre stretch. The beach will feature swimming and diving facilities, walkways with viewing platforms, children’s play zones, and a mangrove ecosystem.

Additionally, the newly revealed plans include details on Jebel Ali Beach’s turtle rehabilitation programmes, allowing visitors to observe turtles in their natural habitat.

Confirmed on Sunday, July 7, the plans reveal that Jebel Ali Beach will span 330 hectares, with 5 kilometres of sandy beach developed by Nakheel and a 1.6-kilometre mangrove beach developed by Dubai Municipality.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed stated: “Following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, [Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai] we are dedicated to enhancing infrastructure and services to provide diverse urban experiences for citizens, residents, and visitors.”

“Our priority is to create spaces abundant with beaches, open areas, and recreational greenery. Our ultimate aim is to enhance the well-being of the city’s residents, foster a healthy environment for everyone, and establish Dubai as the world’s best place to live.”

His Highness stated: “The Jebel Ali Beach Development Project is part of a larger master plan to develop public beaches in the emirate, with the goal of increasing the total length of beaches by 400%.”

The long-term goal is to add new public beaches to our city, improve our existing popular beach spots, and equip each one with additional activities.

This announcement follows the news that Dubai Metro will expand to 140 stations covering over 228 square kilometers by 2040, as shared by the Government of Dubai on social media on Sunday, June 30.

Currently, the Dubai Metro has 64 stations operating over an area of 84 square kilometers.

These plans are part of the Executive Council of Dubai’s strategy to develop areas around Dubai Metro stations, reduce carbon emissions in the emirate to 16 tonnes per capita, and create more economic opportunities for the city.

Additionally, Dubai has announced ambitious plans for Al Maktoum International Airport, aiming to make it the world’s largest capacity airport.

The announcement, made on Sunday, April 28, 2024, outlined the Dhs128 billion project, which will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport once completed.

The existing airport in Dubai South, also known as Dubai World Central, currently serves a small fraction of the planned 260 million passengers it will eventually accommodate.
