What are my rights if area of property I agreed to buy is altered?

Legal Expert Discusses the Scope of Property Purchase Agreements in the UAE

Question: Two years ago, I bought a property from an off-plan developer in Dubai and paid around 60 percent of the property’s value. Under the law, what are the reasons that would allow me to request a cancellation of the property purchase agreement? Is a change in the property’s area sufficient for this?

Answer: According to Article 20 of Executive Council Resolution No. (6) of 2010, which implements Law No. (13) of 2008 regarding the Interim Property Register in Dubai, a buyer can seek to terminate the agreement through the relevant court if the developer makes significant changes to the property’s specifications or if other circumstances arise that justify termination based on general legal principles.
