Emaar plans new Dubai “super tower” to rival Burj Khalifa

Emaar is exploring plans for a new “super tower” in Dubai that would surpass all other planned developments in height, potentially becoming the world’s second-tallest building.

The company’s founder, Mohamed Alabbar, is reportedly working on integrating “sustainable, cutting-edge technologies that have not yet been used in any development worldwide.”

Emaar already holds the record for the world’s tallest building with the 828m Burj Khalifa, which opened in January 2010.

Sources suggest the design and construction of this new project would be unmatched globally, not just in height but also in innovation.

Dubai’s ambitions remain high, and the developer is considering a structure that would nearly match the Burj Khalifa’s height. Potential locations include areas near the existing Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai and Dubai Creek. Four designs are under consideration, including a glass tube-style structure, a rocket-shaped tower, and a futuristic design with gothic spires.

The super tower is expected to be a luxury project featuring high-end offices, hotels, leisure spaces, and residences, with heavy AI integration in both design and operation.

The Burj Azizi, which began construction in January and is being developed by Azizi Developments, is planned to reach 725 metres, making it the world’s second-tallest building upon completion in 2028.

Currently, Marina 101 (425m) and Princess Tower (414m) are the second and third tallest buildings in Dubai, although both are nearly half the height of the Burj Khalifa.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower, designed to exceed 1km in height, has faced significant delays since construction began over a decade ago.

“This new tower would be the largest structure built not just in Dubai but in the world since the Burj Khalifa. We’ve done it once, so we know better than anyone how to do it again,” a source close to the project said.
