The Dubai Metro Blue Line’s Construction Is Starting In 2024

Exciting news! The construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line is set to begin in 2024, bringing a positive change to your daily commute. Get ready for an improved transportation experience that will enhance your daily travels.

The RTA just dropped the big news on Sunday

A transformative shift is on the horizon as a groundbreaking project of AED 18 billion ($4.9 billion) unfolds. With plans to add 14 stations and expand the Metro network by 30km, over 50% of the extension will be underground. According to RTA’s director general, Mattar Al Tayer, the Blue Line is set to revolutionize transportation, catering to vital areas projected to reach a population of approximately one million by 2040 as outlined in the Dubai Urban Plan. The project emphasizes seamless connectivity and integration, effectively linking with the Red and Green Lines.

Talk about city planning done right!

The Blue Line is set to connect Dubai International Airport directly with nine significant areas along its route, including Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 and 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Dubai Festival City. Estimated travel durations between these destinations vary from 10 to 25 minutes.

However, hold back your excitement a bit. The project is expected to conclude in 2029, coinciding with the Dubai Metro’s 20th-anniversary celebration!

The Dubai Metro Blue Line plans made their grand debut last November

Thanks to the benevolence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum! Here’s an intriguing fact: in contrast to the existing Metro Lines, the forthcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line will primarily operate underground, with slightly more than half of its route situated beneath the surface. The remarkable ridership of 260 million in 2023 on the Red and Green Metro lines in Dubai sets the stage for excitement among public transport users with the commencement of construction on the Blue Line!
